Lake City Arts is excited to announce that we will be welcoming the Ute Mountain Ute Dance group, Red Sky Drum Dancers, to Lake City on August 17th, 2024. This group has performed here in years past and we believe it is the perfect way to celebrate the Ute culture that predates Colorado’s existence and to help ring in another healthy snow year with their Snow Dance Celebration.  Last winter was a mighty one, filling the valleys and peaks with a gracious amount of snow.  Blue Mesa currently has the highest water level since before 2021.  Anyone who lives in the high peaks of the Gunnison Valley knows how dependent our local ecosystems are based on snow totals. We need your help to support the dancers to get them to Lake City.  The total cost is $3500 which covers their food, lodging, and gas money.  We’re looking for 35 people to donate $100.  Your donation will help strengthen and cultivate a stronger relationship with our Ute Friends all the while providing a wonderful cultural experience to our town.
